"Eight
Second Ride"

Barb
and I have always been intrigued by bull riders. We watch them
every chance we get. It was just natural that we would carve
one, and hopefully more would follow. "Eight Second Ride"
is probably one of the best carvings we have produced. It is
made of several pieces, and assembling it was kind of tricky. The
barrel is drilled so a fairly large screw could go up into the rider,
holding him on the barrel. Then the spring was drilled so a
long lag bolt would go through the top part of the base, through the
crooked spring and into the barrel, hollding everything together.
I ruined 2 springs before I got one drilled right. Anway, it
finally came together, and is in the home of a lady collector in Texas.
The carving won blue ribbons in 3 different categories, character,
character group, and character in a scene. The judges never
could decide where to put it.
